Today is Fuel Poverty Awareness Day, the national initiative to support action for warm homes, coordinated by fuel poverty charity National Energy Action (NEA).

Everybody deserves to live in a warm and safe home. However, each winter millions of people struggle to heat their homes affordably. Living in cold damp conditions endangers health and leads to around 10,000 needless excess deaths across the United Kingdom each year.

This winter will be even more difficult as the Energy Crisis means bills have already increased by over £230 since last winter and further very significant rises are expected in April next year. Over the same period, many people on the lowest incomes, in particular those not in or unable to work, have seen their incomes plummet by over £1000 per year.
