Tynemouth MP Alan Campbell spoke in the fishing debate in the House of Commons on the 8th December.  He raised concern over the availability of funding for infrastructure repair to the quay. He highlighted a report that found the condition of the quay required between £6 and £8 million to be spent on infrastructure repair.

He stressed the dilemma of those who make the repairs.  He asked “Does North Shields Fish Quay make a bid? As a private company, it would be able to access only 50% of funding or does the Port of Tyne do it? Until funding is made available and repairs are done fishermen are being prevented from going about their daily business.”

Given his concerns Alan wrote to the Fisheries Minister to look into the matter with some urgency, and asked if funding would be available after we leave the common fisheries policy.
