Further to our correspondence regarding Verne Road dentists, I have now had a further update from the ICB following a meeting with the dental practice.
The practice has not asked to end its contract, and it remains an NHS service provider.
I am pleased that the practice has confirmed that children will be able to access services regardless of whether a parent has signed up for a private contract.
The providers have also assured the ICB that they will continue to provide NHS treatment for patients within their available NHS workforce capacity, prioritising patients based on clinical need, which essentially means accessing emergency treatment.
Some residents have raised with me the September 1st deadline.  I must stress that this deadline relates to the decision of the practice to offer private services and the choice of whether to register privately is a personal one.
The ICB are in the process of commissioning further dental contracts in our area to ensure people can access urgent appointments.
The government recognises the lack of access to routine care and is working at pace behind the scenes to address this.
I can assure you I will continue to push for better access locally and will keep you updated as discussions continue.
