Alan Campbell MP for Tynemouth Community Commitment Common Sense
Today the world marks Holocaust Memorial Day, 80 years since the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau.
On this day we commemorate the Holocaust – the deliberate murder of 6 million Jews. We also commemorate the millions more people murdered through the Nazi persecution of non-Jewish groups, and in the more recent genocides recognised by the government, and in Darfur. It is marked in thousands of communities across the country, with the UK Ceremony as the focal point, and the national moment to Light the Darkness.
As the Holocaust moves out of living memory is it more important than ever that we stand together against hatred, intolerance and prejudice all around the world.
