Alan Campbell MP for Tynemouth Community Commitment Common Sense
The Met Office have issued a weather warning for very strong winds across our regions on Friday 24 January.
Northern Powergrid have asked me to pass on the following information:
“If your power goes off, you can report and track progress on our website www.northernpowergrid.com/power-cuts-map
Alternatively, call our dedicated team on 0800 169 2996.
You can also find some useful hints and tips on our website at www.northernpowergrid.com/what-to-do-in-a-power-cut
Our customer support vehicles are prepared and ready to go out into local communities, where possible, to offer help to those who need it most.
Customers with a disability, medical condition or very young families, who may need further assistance during a power cut and have signed up to our Priority Services Membership, will be kept up to date as a priority.
How you can prepare for a power cut
• Ensure you have a fully charged mobile phone, with a power bank available, if possible
• Keep a torch, batteries, warm clothing, and blankets on hand
• Follow up-to-date information on the weather on the Met Office website at www.metoffice.gov.uk
• If you have medical equipment that uses electricity, make sure you have a plan in place in case the power goes off. Speak to your medical provider for advice on what to do
What to do if your power goes off
• Close window shutters, blinds or curtains to help you keep the heat in and the draught out
• Ensure your fridge and freezer doors are closed as much as possible
• Beware of fallen power lines. Power lines can fall in high winds, so be careful when leaving your home. If you see a fallen power line, do not approach them – call 105 immediately to report it
Please remember to check on the welfare of neighbours, friends and family members who may need additional support.
