Alan Campbell MP for Tynemouth Community Commitment Common Sense
Fishing can be a dangerous profession, yet fishermen are vital for feeding us and for supporting our coastal communities.
Their sacrifices deserve to be recognised at the national level, both to pay tribute and to focus attention on improving fishing safety across the UK.
So I am pleased that the UK’s first National Fishing Remembrance Day will be held on Sunday 12 May 2024.
There is a local event at Fiddler’s Green on the Fish Quay starting at 11am and directly afterwards a blue plaque to the late Henry Howard is being unveiled by the Mayor and Henry’s granddaughter at the Fishermen’s Mission.
