This week local MP Alan Campbell has sent out letters to those who may be entitled to Pension Credit across the constituency but may not be receiving it.

Across the UK 1.4 million pensioners do not claim what they are entitled to. You or a loved one may be entitled up to £3300 per year and £1000 in discounts to things such as Council Tax. Additional benefits are on offer in certain circumstances such as the severe disability or carer’s addition. Furthermore, if you are paying a mortgage then you may be entitled to extra income.

The MP is asking all residents to check if they or their loved ones are eligible for Pension Credit and if you apply before the 18th of August then you will be entitled to the full cost of living payments, or you may miss out on the first £326 payment that was made in May. (You MUST request to backdate the payment when making the claim).

To find out if you are eligible, please go to https://www.gov.uk/pension-credit/how-to-claim or call (a family member or trusted friend can also call on your behalf if you are hard of hearing) 0800 99 1234 to speak to a professional from the Department for Work and Pensions.
