A number of people have contacted Alan Campbell recently about support for small breweries. Here’s what he said “Over the past couple of years it has been great to see so many micro-breweries and small pubs spring up in the constituency and they have quickly become a valued and vibrant part of our local area.
The pandemic has had a massive impact on their ability to trade and without further help from the government there is a real threat that some will go under.
I’ve been contacted by a number of those in the trade and their supporters who have made the case for a Scottish style, direct funding scheme for small breweries called the Brewers Support Fund and which could provide up to £30,000 per brewery.
I believe this would be a vital lifeline for our local breweries and I have recently raised this directly with the Treasury to ask them to consider developing a similar scheme to Scotland’s.”
