New rules have been announced this afternoon with a new exemption for looking after children under the age of 14 or vulnerable adults where that is necessary for caring purposes.
Tynemouth MP Alan Campbell said “I’m pleased that the Health Secretary has listened to the concerns that were raised and has now u-turned on childcare arrangements. Thanks to all the parents and grandparents who have raised this issue with me.
I understand the exemption covers both formal and informal arrangements so that grandparents, for example, can look after their grandchildren to allow parents to go to work. It does not however cover parties or play-dates.
I hope that this allays some of people’s concerns at what was a frustrating decision. Thank you to all those who contacted me to raise this important issue.
I will post the full guidance once it is available.”
