Tynemouth MP Alan Campbell said;

“It is disappointing that additional lockdown measures have had to be introduced but, based on the evidence, they are necessary.  believe the local authorities’ proactive approach has been correct, it is better to act now than be forced to do so later. It is also right that the measures are across a wide area given factors like the travel to work area. The additional measures will be kept under review and I am in contact with Ministers about them. I would, however, strongly urge everyone to follow the rules.

It has been clear from the start that testing is key to tackling this pandemic.  That means increasing access to testing locally and improving the capacity to get results back quickly. The government is failing on this so they need to give our local authorities the resources and support they need to deliver a better local testing regime.”
