A large number of local residents have contacted Alan regarding Newcastle United. Although Alan is currently responding to all emails, for those who may be interested, here is a copy of his response:
“Newcastle is not only a football club with a proud history but is an important part of our local community with a loud and vocal fan base. I understand that there is huge disappointment and frustration amongst many about the recent collapse of the takeover talks and the uncertainty which surrounds the club.
The bid has been the subject of strong debate, from the motives of the current owner of the club to whether or not the proposed buyers are fit and proper people to own a club. Furthermore, there is a claim that some of the bigger Premier League clubs have exerted influence to ensure that no other Premier League clubs attract sufficient new funding to make them serious challengers.
In light of these concerns I have recently written to Sports Minister Oliver Dowden and the Chief Executive of the Premier League Richard Masters to ask for a full transparent independent inquiry to address the questions that my constituents have legitimately raised.
I will of course update you when I have any further information.”
