Alan Campbell at the climate change lobby in Parliament

Thousands of people came together in Parliament recently  as part of the Climate Coalition’s mass lobby for climate, nature and people.  Tynemouth MP Alan Campbell was there to meet up with campaigners from Tynemouth who had made the trip.

Alan Campbell said “It’s clear that now is the time to act on the climate and environmental crises we are facing. It was for this reason that I supported the House of Commons’ declaration of an environment and climate emergency on 1 May. Declaring an environment and climate emergency means recognising the threat to our planet. I therefore welcome that the Government has introduced legislation to establish in law a target of reducing our greenhouse gas emissions down to net zero by 2050. However, declaring an emergency also means taking action. Achieving net zero will need huge levels of investment, co-ordinated planning, new laws and, as with any emergency, significant Government intervention. Above all, it must mean devoting the time and resources necessary to deal with the scale of the problem we face.”
