Tynemouth MP is backing residents in their attempts to prevent a drive thru opening on the Morrison’s site near John Spence Community High School.

A planning application has been submitted to North Tyneside Council’s Planning Department and Alan has joined with local ward councillors and ward residents in opposing the application.

Alan said “I have a number of concerns about this application which was submitted over the busy Christmas period. I believe the application goes against Public Health England’s Obesity Strategy and also the Council’s own Local Plan which seeks to restrict hot food takeaways nears schools.  Local residents also have understandable concerns about traffic, noise and smells associated with such a development.

I’ve recently written to the Government to clarify the position regarding the obesity strategy and takeaways near schools and I’ve asked North Tyneside Council to extend the consultation period and for the application to go before full committee.”
