Tynemouth MP Alan Campbell and Elected Mayor Norma Redfearn recently went along to the Kismet in Whitley Bay to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of the restaurant.

The newly refurbished Kismet Indian Kitchen and Cocktail Bar is the oldest Indian restaurant in the North-East which is still run and managed by the same family.

The late Mr Maklisur Rahman arrived to the UK in 1962.  After working in the Sheffield steel factories for a few years he left to learn everything about the restaurant trade and opened his first restaurant the Kismet, which means luck or destiny, in 1967.

Alan Campbell MP said “I was pleased to be invited to the Kismet to help celebrate their 50th anniversary and to learn about the history of the Rahman family and their business since they made Whitley Bay their home in 1967.  Here’s to another 50 years.”
