Alan Campbell, MP for Tynemouth along with Mary Glindon MP, this week joined local teenagers who are spending time in the school holidays helping out a busy animal charity.

The group of young people came together through National Citizen Service (NCS), an experience shared by teens from different backgrounds which helps them become better individuals, and in turn better citizens.

Alan and Mary met with the teenagers as the group finalised their plans to raise awareness and funds for Newcastle Cat and Dog Shelter at an event on Thursday 2nd August.

The MP’s offered their advice to maximise the positive impact of the community action project which the teens are delivering as part of the life-changing NCS programme. They also chatted to the young people about democratic participation and life skills, which NCS aims to develop in those that take part.

Local MP Alan Campbell said “It was great to visit and see first-hand the great work local youngsters are doing as part of National Citizen Service at a local animal charity.  NCS have a proven track record in developing the life skills of local young people whilst also fostering a real sense of community engagement.  It really is a worthwhile project which I am happy to support.”

The event is taking place at 1pm on Thursday 2nd August at Newcastle Cat and Dog Shelter, Benton North Farm, Benton Lane NE12 8EH.  Members of the public are welcome to drop in for food, games and to hear more about the project.
