Local MP Alan Campbell today visited a PlayMeetStreet event in Whitley Bay and Cullercoats.

Street play sessions are short, stewarded road closures, giving children the chance to play safely near home, but also making the street feel safer and friendlier for everyone.

PlayMeetStreet North Tyneside applies to North Tyneside Council on residents’ behalf for a licence to approve a temporary closure, initially for a one-off closure for a trial before applying for a full year of closures.

Alan Campbell said “It’s a great initiative which lets kids play out safely in their streets but is also an opportunity for neighbours to come together as a community.

I’d like to thank the local organisers who have worked so hard to bring this together and also the elected Mayor Norma Redfearn for getting the council on board to support what promises to be an enjoyable day for all”.
