Tynemouth MP Alan Campbell today joined Elected Mayor Norma Redfearn at a Q and A with Ray Lonsdale, the sculptor of the Fiddler Green Memorial at the Old Low Light in North Shields.

The North Shields Fishermen’s Heritage Project is a community based project dedicated to creating a fitting and lasting memorial to fishermen who left the port of North Shields and lost their lives just doing their job.  North Shields is one of the only ports left in the UK without a memorial.

Alan said "I want to thank all the volunteers who have been part of the project since the beginning.  They have worked tirelessly to make this a reality and it's great to see how far they have come in what is a short space of time.  I am looking forward to the official unveiling in September."
