Tynemouth MP Alan Campbell has met with senior officials of the Unite trade union to discuss the future for jobs at Northern Rock. Afterwards Alan Campbell called on Northern Rock’s Chief Executive to meet with the trade union to discuss future jobs.

Alan Campbell said ‘Thousands of people work at Northern Rock and they are understandably concerned about their future. The trades union which represent a significant part of the workforce ought to be involved at every part of the discussion’.

Later Alan Campbell met representatives of the Northern Rock Foundation which supports many community projects in the region.

Alan Campbell said ‘The NRF puts millions into the community and ideally they will continue to do so. But we have to ensure the best possible outcome for the company to protect jobs, protect savers and borrowers and safeguard the foundations work. The government is playing a key part in securing the space for the company to determine its future and I will continue to make sure that Ministers are aware of what is at stake’.
