The Tory plan to restore the earnings link with pensions is simply not credible says Tynemouth MP Alan Campbell.
Alan Campbell said the Tory promise has to be seen against Tory actions when the Thatcher Government broke the link in 1980.
Alan Campbell said, “Local pensioners recall all to well the actions of the Thatcher government when the link was broken. For the Tories to promise to restore it if they ever get to power is a cruel deception. They promise to spend £7 billion – but at the same time as increasing spending, they promise to cut spending by 20% across the board and cut taxes. It is simply not credible.
Furthermore to offer to pay for the restoration of the earnings link by ending new Deal and throwing hundreds of young people in Tynemouth Constituency onto the dole shows just how low this Conservative Party has stooped.”
