Tynemouth MP Alan Campbell has met with Ministers to further press the case for seaside regeneration.
Alan Campbell and colleagues from the Seaside Group of Labour MP’s met the Tourism Minister, the Chief Secretary to the Treasury and the Transport Minister to discuss how best to take forward regeneration issues.
Alan Campbell said “Regular discussions with Ministers helps to ensure that government departments, most of whom have a role to play, understand the problems of seaside towns. Seaside towns as an issue have never been further up the political agenda. We now have seaside and costal regeneration written into the regional economic strategy and local authorities are able to bid for funding for regeneration schemes. The Spanish City redevelopment partly depends on public money and the local authority has put forward a proposal to regenerate part of the seafront. We all need to support that, take the opportunity which is there and go further to make sure that all areas benefit.”
