Tynemouth MP Alan Campbell has welcomed the announcement by the Home Secretary of funding for Community Support Officers for Northumbria Police.

Northumbria Police is to receive £330,398 to fund 45 CSO’s.

Community Support Officers are a key part of the Police Reform Programme. They provide highly visible patrols, dealing with anti-social behaviour and supporting their police officer colleagues.

Alan Campbell said:

"This is further good news in the fight against crime. Where they have been employed CSO’s have proved very popular with local communities and I welcome the extension of the scheme."
