Tynemouth MP Alan Campbell has joined with constituents in a service to unveil a plaque in honour of the victims of the biggest air raid tragedy in North Shields in World War 2.
The plaque is in memory of men, women and children who lost their lives in the air bombing of North Shields on Saturday 3rd May 1941. Local people were sheltering in the Wilkinson Lemonade Factory when it received a direct hit and over 100 lives were lost.
The memorial plaque was commissioned by North Tyneside Veterans, North Tyneside Council and North Tyneside Challenge. It also pays tribute to the bravery and dedication of the emergency and voluntary services.
