Seaside Seminar raised concerns about resort regeneration 29/04/2003

Tynemouth MP Alan Campbell used a seaside seminar organised by No 10 Downing Street to raise concerns about seaside regeneration. The seminar allowed Labour MPs representing seaside towns to raise concerns with Ministers with some responsibility for seaside towns.

Ministers included Dr Kim Howells MP – Minister for Tourism, Paul Boateng – Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Tony McNulty MP from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister David Jamieson.

The meeting included an update on progress made to promote tourism in England and to discuss the likely impact of new legislation on gambling.

Alan Campbell used the opportunity to raise environmental regeneration calling for the Regional Development Agencies to give a higher priority for seaside regeneration and calling upon Ministers to urge them to do so."
