World class public services Labour's goal 18/04/2003

Despite global uncertainties Britain is on line to deliver record investment in schools and hospitals.

The Spending Review last year set out plans for an extra £61 billion of spending on public services by 2005-06 and 75% of additional spending will go on key priorities of health, education, transport, housing and the fight against crime.

This year’s national insurance increases will fund improvements in the NHS.

UK spending on health will rise by 7.2%a year in real terms and there will be significant increases in buildings and equipment.

Alan Campbell said

"This Budget underlines our commitment to providing world class public services through investment and reform. We are on line to deliver 80,000 more nurses and 25,000 more doctors by 2008."
