The Budget will build on firm foundations and continued good news on employment says Alan Campbell. Unemployment is at its lowest in a generation and there are 1.5million more people in jobs than in 1997. New Deal has helped almost 415,000 young people into work and help has been extended to other groups such as lone parents and those with disabilities. This year’s budget announced a new system of support to help people search for jobs and new flexibility for local Jobcentre Plus districts. Reform to Housing Benefit will improve financial gains to work and the budget also improves support for lone parents with a new £20 a week work-search premium for those actively seeking work. Alan Campbell said "There are 1,000 more people in work in Tynemouth compared with 1997 but we cannot be complacent. Our goal is employment opportunity for all and the delivery of full employment." |
