The Anti-social Behaviour Bill will make an important difference in tackling anti-social behaviour in Tynemouth, according to Alan Campbell MP. The Bill received its second reading the House of Commons on 8th April and brings in a raft of new measures to tackle the problem of anti-social behaviour. The Bill simplifies Anti-social Behaviour Orders which allow local authorities and the police to deter persistent offenders, and if the order is broken, to prosecute them. The Bill also gives new powers against drug dealing, and will lead to the swifter closure of crack houses. Police and local authorities will have new powers to disperse youngsters causing a nuisance and there will be new powers to introduce Fixed Penalty Notices. There are also new powers relating to air weapons, litter, graffiti and fly-tipping. Alan Campbell said "Tackling anti-social behaviour is a top priority for this government. Too many people’s lives are made a misery, often by young people using threatening behaviour or damaging property. This Bill will not only give police and local authorities new powers, but it will empower whole communities and improve the quality of life of people living there." |
