From May 1st this year pensioners and disabled people in Tynemouth constituency will become eligible for cheaper fares on coaches, similar to the travel concessions they already get on local buses. Under a new government scheme, coach companies agreeing to offer half fare concessions will receive a government grant to cover their costs.
The scheme covers journeys across England and Wales. National Express, the biggest operator of scheduled services in the country, will definitely be participating from the start.
Alan Campbell MP said:
"This is very good news for pensioners and disabled people in Tynemouth constituency. Many have family or friends living some way away so visiting them can be expensive. Half price fares on the coaches will help them keep in touch. I’m urging all coach companies to sign up to the scheme so that pensioners and disabled people get the best possible deal."
