Tynemouth MP Alan Campbell says the most recent unemployment figures for February confirm the underlying strength of the economy.

In February in Tynemouth constituency there were 1,710 people claiming unemployment benefits. that is 150 lower than a year ago and 1,310 lower than February 1997.

Local MP Alan Campbell said:

"Unemployment is down by more than 43% on six years ago and these latest figures show that despite a global slowdown and international uncertainty the local, regional and national economy is relatively strong."
