Tynemouth MP Alan Campbell has backed a Private members Bill to toughen up the law on fireworks. The Bill had its second reading in the House of Commons last Friday and will pass on to its committee stage for scrutiny. The Fireworks Bill will promote the responsible use of fireworks, limit noise levels and ensure that points of sale and public displays are properly licensed. A broad spectrum of voluntary and community groups including the RSPCA, Guide Dog for the Blind Association and British Horse Society back the Bill.
Alan Campbell said
"“The misuse of fireworks is a major concern across my constituency. Parents of young children, older people, blind and partially sighted people and pet owners have all voiced their concerns. Residents consistently tell me that they want to see tougher controls over the sales, use and noise levels of fireworks and I believe this Bill will be an important step forward.”
