Alan Campbell supports Screening Matters campaign

Local MP Alan Campbell has backed Cancer Research UK’s new campaign Screening Matters.  The campaign, which has already received the backing of 80,000 people, aims to raise awareness of the importance of early cancer screening in saving lives and encourage more people to attend bowel, breast and cervical screening services.

Alan Campbell MP said ‘I have been contacted by a number of constituents about this important issue.  The Cancer Reform Strategy, published in December 2007 places a welcome priority making further improvements to screening services but we must continue to go further.  I have written to ask the Chief Executive of the Primary Care Trust about plans to improve cancer screening services here in Tynemouth and will continue to lobby to ensure we have the resources in place to improve and expand existing services’.
