MP thanked for support of the Region’s Museums

The Director of Tyne and Wear Museums has thanked local MP Alan Campbell for his support of the region’s museums.

Alan Campbell was a keen supporter of the Museum, Library and Archive Council’s Renaissance programme (formerly Renaissance in the Regions) and was delighted that following the Comprehensive Spending Review the project has received sufficient funding to enable them to continue their excellent work.

The first 3 years of the project has been a great success with a better engagement between people in the regions and their museums and collections.  Alan Campbell MP said ‘I am delighted by this news.  The North East has a proud cultural heritage and some excellent museums.  I am especially pleased that there has been a growth in the numbers of people from ‘non-traditional’ museum audiences now participating.  Culture should be available to everyone no matter what their background is’.
