MP congratulates local sixth formers on winning national prize
Local MP Alan Campbell met with sixth formers from Whitley Bay High School to congratulate them on winning the prestigious legal competition the National Mock Bar Trial Competition.
A team of 13 sixth-formers from Whitley Bay High School won the final of this year’s Bar National Mock Trial Competition, run by the Citizenship Foundation and Bar Council. The finals were held in Liverpool on Saturday March 1st.
The competition is designed to get young people aged 16-18 interested and involved in the criminal justice system, and is overseen by serving judges, QCs and practicing barristers. This year’s final saw Sixth formers from 160 schools across the county pit their wits against each other in a real-life courtroom settings. The Whitley Bay High School team won seven gruelling rounds, four at the regional final at Newcastle Crown Court in November and three in the national finals.
Alan Campbell said ‘I was delighted to meet with the sixth formers to congratulate them on winning this prestigious prize. It is no mean feat to have beaten off such stiff competition from across the country and those involved should be rightly proud of their achievements’.
